About three weeks ago I started to sow tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, chilies and parsnip. Now I have the small seed pans inside, the sun is havind a hard time over here. Some of the seedlings where ready to get replanted in a bigger box. I hope the weather gets better so I can put the plants in our greenhouse by the end of April!

favoriet Maart

Since a couple of years we have our own greenhouse and grow our own vegetables and herbes. Mostly tomatoes, cucumbers, salads, carrots and also hot chilies. They spice up your food and the thing I like about chilies is that they have hardly a taste of their own, like the classic pepper. Mostly you can taste that and somethimes it's just a pitty for the dish. Red chilies contain large amount of vitamine C! (Their very high vitamin C content can also substantially increase the uptake of non-heme iron from other ingredients in a meal, such as beans) It's really easy to dry chilies and you can use them all year this way. I hang them in the kitchen and it also looks very nice. And because it's almost time to plant the seeds and the season of growing starts: that's way the chili is favorite of the month!

favoriet februari: rijstmelk!

My favorite for Februari is Rice-Milk, I use it as a replacement voor diary-products. Of course you can also use almoundmilk, oat-or soymilk. I can't use almoundmilk because of my nut-allergy and soy-products don't make me happy at all ( of some of the soy-products I even get a small allergic reaction, which isn't that weird if you have a peanut-allergy so I found out: then there is a cross-pollination between peanut and soy). And to be honest I didn't try out the oatmilk because I have developed this small addiction for ricemilk. I use it for everything: for my porridge, pancakes and hot chocolate. The best thing is that I love hot chocolate but it always made me feel sick afterwards. The same with porridge: it fellt like a brick in my stomage. But not with the ricemilk! A wonderfull discovery. If you feel weird after using milkproducts I would definitly recommend to switch for like two weeks, you should feel the difference!
