sinaasappel chocolade pasta

English version of the recipe (orange-chocolate paste)

- cut 350 gr. dark chocolate in fine pieces (I use the chocolate from "Vivani"*, this one has 92% cacao and is sweetened with coconut blossom-sugar) and melt it au bain marie.
- grind the skin from one orange.
- cook 250 ml rice-milk* (or coconut-almond or hazelnut milk) together with the orange grind just to the cooking point.
- add the milk to the chocolate and stir to a smooth mixture.
- press the juice out of the orange and add 50 ml juice to the chocolate.
- pour the chocolate in a clean glass jar and let cool down. Keep in the fridge. You can keep the paste for about a week, but here it was almost gone immediately ;-)
- nice on bread, waffles, pancakes or just eat in out of the jar.

just eat it

Vorige week zag ik deze documentaire "Just eat it".

Sometimes I blog about things that get to me in our food-industry, like a little piece about e-numbers in our food. Last week I watched the documentary "Just eat it". A lot of things that were told in this documentary I already knew, but the facts and the images they showed I found shocking and impressive. This film is about that a lot of our produced food does not find its way to our stomach, but goes straight to the trash. Because it has past its date or because it never finds his way to our stores. Super markets have such strict rules about the shape and color that a lot of our vegetables and fruit never make it to the stores.
The Canadian film makers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin challenge themselves to eat the food they find in the containers of supermarkets for 6 months. Grant gets addicted to finding food that this leads to whole different problems… If you can find this film in your country, go get it and watch it! I found it very shocking to see what we trow away, how we deal with our food. I try not to waste food, I cook the amount of food we eat. Sometimes a piece of bread gets mould, which I feed to the birds. Maybe this helps, I tell myself. But the problem starts a lot earlier in the process. With all the beautiful looking vegetables we want and not the crooked bananas or bent cucumbers…
